[coord] Qi lolita/closet cosplay for Genshin Impact event

 Just wanted to update on this blog my first coord of 2024, qi-lolita that is also closet cosplay! I realized that I didn't put specific brand or fashion topics as tags on my main site and I haven't decided yet if I should, since that would create a massive tag cloud that probably won't be utilized by most visitors of my domain. So I do have to crosspost to blogger here, oh well. This is the beautiful Kaleidoscope of Fortune Deer high waist JSK by Meta of which the purple/black colorway is the most stunning. Technically this dress is also wa-lolita, but since I bought the twin bun haircovers, I consider it qi-lolita by intention lol.

[discussion] Cosplay lolita... bringing the pain.

I'll be discussing the concept of cosplay lolita in depth here. It's an ita topic, to be honest, but I want to get my thoughts out.

There are many ways to build lolita coordinates, and one such way is bringing a theme into your outfit, perhaps to match a favorite concept or to celebrate an event. For example, photoshoots or a tea party around a holiday are popular times that lolitas can incorporate a fun theme. Alice in Wonderland, fairy tales, Christmas, Halloween, maid/butler cafes, sailor/pirate nautical outings; all of those can get a little... whimsical, but brands have been incorporating such motifs into their prints and advertisement photoshoots for forever. It's just a core concept of what a lolita is all about.

But when we talk about cosplay lolita, we're talking about these different and somewhat painful subjects below:

• Cosplaying an actual character from an anime/game/film who is wearing something lolita-like
• Example: characters from lolita-inspired manga series such as Rozen Maiden, which has collaborated with Innocent World
• Cosplaying an actual character from a series, but in lolita clothing they don't normally wear
• Example: dressing up as Hanji Zoe from Attack on Titan... but now wearing lolita, which I've done lmao

In these instances, it is no longer "I'm dressing in ouji, but I sorta look like a generic Mad Hatter with this hat and this teacup I'm carrying," it is more "I am Johnny Depp's Mad Hatter but in ouji." Of course, it is up to everyone on how they feel about calling cosplay lolita "lolita" or if they should even acknowledge it. But you know what, lolita designers are into the anime scene (even if just for the money), and many people who dress up in lolita, if not most of them, are or were weebs. So do your cosplay lolita if you want! Who cares what people say about you conflating lolita with cosplay? Look at your life choices, then look at your friends and their life choices. There is no dignity here, let's all be honest.

I think the main reason purist lifestyle lolitas don't want to be associated with cosplay lolita is simply because it usually looks bad. Other than the few collaborations, most cosplay lolita has to be handmade, and unless you're a seasoned seamstress, it will never look as polished as brand. Plus all those crazy wigs and accessories. Not to mention, sometimes the characters are just too sexual lolicon for many lolitas to be comfortable around. Who wants to be associated with fetish material? No one.

Cosplay lolita can be fun, especially to wear to an anime convention, but I won't lie, it's hard to pull off. Not recommended for beginners, that's for sure. As the occasion arrives, I'll keep doing some cosplay lolita, but honestly I'm pretty lazy and prefer to buy brand these days lmao.

[coords] Halloween Outfits!

I love cosplay and I love lolita, and while I admit combining the two generally ends badly, like 99% of the time, lmao, I still enjoyed the opportunity to wear lolita style coords for Halloween 2015.  I hope you agree that these were tastefully done.

This was actually an old Princess Peach lolita style costume I sewed to go with a friend's Super Mario lolita themed group for a con some years ago. I added more lace, bought a new wig and wore updated gloves and shoes, but for an older creation, I think it both looks like Peach's SSBB outfit and a lolita dress. I won a free day off at work at our work costume contest, too, so worth it.

I just wanted an opportunity to rewear my Innocent World Gargyoles of Notre Dame to the lolita panel at Mini-Akon, and get a full length photo, I was going for a urban Parisian witch look with flowers and fur and feathers and animal mixed with gothic cross motifs and Eiffel Tower charms. Innocent World JSK, purse, socks, Bodyline shoes, offbrand blouse and jewelry, handmade headdress and veil!

[coords] Metamorphose Diavolo white coat

I bought the Metamorphose Diavolo long coat in off-white (one of the few full price online store purchases I've made) because it was so dramatic and just my style! It's not a typical lolita item, being a men's cut (sort of anyway) military style coat. But I was determined to make it work, so here are a few example outfits I put together.

This is lolita style using the coat, a large white fur collar from Forever 21, offbrand blouse and gloves, Meta socks and knock off boots. The hat is a cruise captain Halloween prop my mom got one year that I decorated with one of the badges that came with the coat lmao. I am wearing a Meta skirt underneat, so there is a slight a-line shape to the silhouette. The jacket is unlined and made of a light woven material, so it's not particularly warm despite its appearance, so I am not sure what is the intended season, but with a collar and gloves and tights and boots, it could work for cool fall weather or mild winter.

 These are cosplay outfits to be honest, but I was just seeing how to go for a more masculine (HAHAHA) look with my Free! wigs that need using up. They were inspired by their white navy captain uniforms, but whereas the artwork had a summer theme with short sleeves, I coordinated this coat for a more wintry theme.  I used a black pashmina and a black fur collar that came with a coat, plus a black Meta blouse for Rei. I didn't add much to Momo, although now you can gold cording I attached to the epaulettes better. The bottoms are white jeans and black knee high motorcyle boots.

So anyway... I love this coat, but it doesn't look complete without the hat (which I never found the white hat sold online, only the black and that was sold out ages ago). I feel like I give off a cruise captain look even wearing it lolita style. But it's my happiest purchase!
